Weekend Baseball Roundup: Montesano sweeps season series over Elma

Montesano swept the season series against East County rival Elma with a 4-0 win on Friday at Vessey Field in Montesano.

Bulldogs starting pitcher Isaac Pierce put in a stellar pitching performance, striking out 13 Eagles while allowing just two hits in picking up the complete-game shutout victory.

Montesano (11-3 overall, 6-0 1A Evergreen) scored a run when Isaiah Pierce swiped home on a double steal and stretched its lead to 3-0 a few batters later when Kaleb Ames singled home Zandar Ames and John Kling in the bottom of the second inning.

The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the third when Bode Poler — aboard with a leadoff double — scored on a single to center by Josh Wills.

That was all the run support Isaac Pierce would need as the senior right-hander allowed a first-inning single to JT Tiffany and a leadoff single to Gibson Cain in the seventh.

At one point of the game, Pierce had retired 15 straight Eagles.

“Isaac Pierce was outstanding on the mound,” Montesano head coach Mike Osgood said. “(Assistant) coach Drew Mabey and he were in sync mixing in all his pitches from him.”

The win keeps Monte a game ahead of Tenino for first place in the 1A Evergreen League standings.

The 15th-ranked Bulldogs host third-place Eatonville in a doubleheader set for 3 pm on Tuesday.
